She is rlly sweet but if you catch her off guard, she bites. Is there any way to train this out of her? Obediance school? We dont want to put her down.My dogs natural instinct is to be agressive, mut she is rlly sweet, is there any way to train this out of her?
Depending on the breed, aggression is NOT a ';natural instinct.'; It is the product of poor breeding, poor training, and/or poor socialization. If the source of the problem is the first option, chances are nothing can be done.
Hire a behaviorist: they will be able to tell you everything you need to know.
PS - A trainer is not necessarily a behaviorist. Trainers deal with obedience, behaviorists deal with dog behavior and instinct related themes. There is a BIG different in their methods on working with dogs.My dogs natural instinct is to be agressive, mut she is rlly sweet, is there any way to train this out of her?
I suggest that you watch ';The Dog Whisperer'; - Cesar Millan on National Geographic channel. He deals with a lot of these situations. It is normally not the dog but the handler. You must be the Pack Leader with Calm Assertive energy and the dog must be in a Calm Submissive state. I've tried his techniques and they work.
Check out his web site... http://www.cesarmillaninc.com/
He also has some videos that are available on Amazon or his web site.
What do you mean her ';natural instinct';? Let me guess you have a Pitt and you have read a bunch of crap that they are bred to fight.
No dog is naturally aggressive. If the dog is properly trained and socialized then you are not going to have a aggressive dog.
Yes, get a behavioralist to work with the dog and show you how to train her. How old is the dog? Are there times that she is prone to biting more than others? Specifically, when she is eating, when she has toys, if you take somethingaway from her, etc...
There are training for this kind of conditions but they can get very expensive very soon.
Get her used to people. If she is used to people she has a less likely-hood of biting.
Sorry, its not instinct, just poor training...
